There are no analogs to wonderful and unique Russian Orthodox icons as there is no explanation to the whole Russian soul. However, many things become clear if you get acquainted with Russian icon-painters Larisa Ivanova and Anatolii Shiryaev. Their icons deserve individual, more detailed publications. If you look at these icons, you will understand that both Russian Orthodoxy and Russia are alive, and tomorrow is with them.
Larisa Ivanova
Larisa is a member of Commonwealth of Artists in Russia. She was born on May, 5 1953 in Novosibirsk. Larisa uses the patchwork mosaic technique and creates a series of “soft” pictures. She has her own original technology of making pictures from cuttings of German carpeting (so called “kilavars”). Painter’s works evidently display that they were created by woman. Main motivation of her creativity is love. Characteristic feature of her works is bright expressiveness of color patches. They generate different associative images and form a special emotional mood.
Anatolii Shiryaev
Anatolii is a member of Commonwealth of Artists in Russia. He was born on October, 16 1951 in Ivanovo. The painter has a very wide range of creativity. He is an acknowledged master of applied and decorative arts. His creative work includes interior design and wooden sculptures, decorative coining and ceramics, carved pictures and encrustation of stones. In 2000, creativity of Anatolii Shiryaev entered a new phase. His carved Orthodox icons don’t have analogs in Russia and abroad. They represent a well-deserved continuation of the best traditions of Russian medieval masters. The first personal exhibition of painter’s carved icons took place in Novosibirsk in October 2001. His icons keep spiritual revelations within them.
